- The situation so far: I've got a Windows for Workgroups network of four PC's
- here running WFWG 3.1 and using software and drivers from a package called
- 'Pathway Access' by the Wollongong Group for TCP/IP stuff. Setting it up
- was a pretty hairy business, but now most things work except for the fact
- that if the machines are left on for a while they tend to lose contact with
- the outside world (strange).
-
- The question is: is it worth buying WFWG3.11 and downloading one of the
- Microsoft TCP/IP betas (which one: there seems to be two?). What extra features
- will this give me? Is it worth the money (only $31 per PC at academic
- prices). Shoudl I just wait until the next batch of WIndows products comes
- out?

- Well the reasons I was running PCTCP is for compatibility with some hubs and
- other software around here.
-
- I switched to Trumpet and "poof" no problems! Now, I intend to write FTP Inc.
- (though I also know they read this list), but my question is:
-
- Do some winsock programmers program to Trumpet specificly? Or is FTP's
- winsock out of spec.? I find the latter VERY hard to believe since FTP was
- one/the company who made the specification for winsock (am I wrong in this
- understanding?). So, THE question is "Whose code is really the broken code?"
-
- It is highly annoying to find that a $20 shareware package out performs a $400
- package - granted you don't get all the clients, but you can still register
- all the needed shareware apps and fall well short of $400. Time to send off
- my money to Trumpet and Alun.
-
- I would like to see a fix that allows me to go back to PCTCP - I like the
- products non-winsock apps, but I also _need_ winsock support.
-
- Thanks to the 2 responses (so far - both saying go to Trumpet). Any other
- information is welcome.
